Google Play Store Apps filled with Malware, Are You Safe?

Android smartphone users are being warned about over a dozen apps found on Google Play Store that are filled with malware.

Android fans have been put on alert a number of apps on Google Play Store are loaded with malicious software.

Android is one of the most used piece of software in the world. The hugely popular OS has also been subject to a number of high profile security scare the biggest of which being the Judy malware campaign.

That saw up to 36.5million Android smartphone users infected by over 41 apps on Google Play Store.

Android fans are being warned about Google Play Store security scare. Experts have warned that 13 malware filled apps found on Google Play Store have been installed on more than half a million Android devices.

Lukas Stefanko, an IT security researcher with ESET, discovered the malware was found on a number of Android diving game apps.

He tweeted: "Don't install these apps from Google Play - it's malware

"Details: 14 apps, all together 560,000+ installs, after launch hide itself icon, download additional APK and make user install it (unavailable now), 2 apps are #Trending no legitimate functionality, reported."

Stefanko also published a video showing one affending app being installed on android device. When Stefanko tries to open it the app shows a logo for game graphics engine but then after that display a blank screen. And after existing the app the icon for it no longer appears.

Stefanko also tweeted: "Downloaded APK is called Game Center.

"These app os downloaded in the background and requestes user to install it.

Once lanched it hide itself & display ads when device is unlocked."

Responding to the findings, Will LaSaka director of security solutions at OneSpan, said,"Application repackaging has been on the rise for a while now.

"Earlier this year it was reported that applications were being hijacked to install cryptocurrency miners.

"We saw a decline in these attacks when govt started to address the cryptocurrency conversion process and made it harder for anonymous people to cash out.

"However these repackage attacks did not stop instead they got sophisticated and refocused on other valuable data that can be converted to money just as quickly.

"Now repackaging attacks make common or simple apps into nefarious playload delievery applcations.

This allows hackers to get other malware onto victims phones without their knowledge and often by combining screen overlay attacks to help trick users into installing these newly downloaded malware playloads. These malware apps focus on harveting credentials and injecting libraries that can cause applications to deliever sensitive information directly into the hands of the hakers."

Samsung to Launch Triple Camera Galaxy A7

Samsung is reportedly holding an event today in Karachi where the company might be launching the latest addition to A series, Galaxy A7 2018 which will also be company’s first phone to come with a triple camera setup on its back.

The device has already been announced globally by the Korean giant while the regional releases will follow soon. It is also set to launch in India tomorrow which strongly hints that the phone could get launched today in Pakistan.

The triple camera, being the major highlight, got its recognition with the Huawei P20 Pro and now Samsung is entering this market where mobile photography holds a mile-stone importance and eyes to rival the triple camera flagship from its competitor, Huawei.

Its predecessor, Galaxy A7 2017 was launched around Rs.55000 but came with a lower spec sheet, including a single camera. So we expect the Galaxy A7 2018 to launch at approximately Rs. 60,000 or more.

It will have all the contemporary trendy features like a big screen and a narrow aspect ratio for better handling. However, Samsung has still not embraced the notch which might be refreshing for notch haters to see.

The device will have a premium glass design and sport a 6-inch Super AMOLED display, an octa-core processor clocked at a frequency of 2.2GHz accompanied by 6GB of RAM and128GB of internal storage.

The triple camera will be aligned vertically on the top left rear corner and will include a 24MP main sensor with f/1.7 which will improve the quality of the image by combining four pixels in one in low light conditions.

Along with the main sensor will be a 5MP depth sensor with a f/2.2 aperture for giving your images a better bokeh effect. The third lens will be an 8MP ultra-wide sensor with a f/2.4 aperture in order to capture photos with 120 degrees field of view.

Seeing the pictures of the device, you might wonder about the fingerprint scanner. Samsung has put the scanner in a rather peculiar place, side of the phone. However, we are yet to see its usability in real life.

Samsung will unveil its next generation flagship smartphone, Galaxy S9 at Mobile World Congress next month.

Samsung is clearly very proud of the photography prowess of its new handset, which is a good thing because the design of the Galaxy S9 is purportedly almost identifical to its predecessor.

VentureBeat has shared (via serial tipster (Evan Blass) what it claims are official images of the forthcoming Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+.

The front of both smartphones appear nearly identical to the Galxy S8 range.

If these leaked images are accurate it appears the Samsung Galaxy S9 will keep the same dual curved almost bezelss display and dedicated Bizby button.

VentureBeat, which has an impressive track record when it comes to predicting future Samsung hardware, claim the Galaxy S9 will include a 5.8 inches display while Galaxy S9+ is said to have a slightly larger 6.2 inches display.

Those are the same sizes as the Super AMOLED " Infinity" display that appeared on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ last year. And the similarities don't end there.

Samsung is tipped to make some major upgrades to the cameras on the Galaxy S9 and S9

Samsung Camera improvements purportedly include a variable aperture on the rear facing 12MP, enabling users to switch between f/2.4 and f/1.5.

According to sources speaking to VentureBeat the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will include built in AKG stereo speakers this time around.

Samsung has yet to really leverage its acquisition of Harman International the parent company behind premium audio brands like AKG,JBL and Harman/Kardon which it bought in March 2017.

According to reports, the cameras will be aligned vertically on the back of the both galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+.

This solves one of our biggest gripes with Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ which aligned the fingerprint scanner horizontally with the lens.

Both Galaxy S9 models are widely tipped to keep the 3.5mm headphone port something previously rumoured to have been ditched in favour of USB C headphones.

While the Xperia XA 2 Ultra has received a very generous selfie rig upgrade Sony chose to re use same 8MP wide angle sensor from the XA1 over in the XA2. It now sits behind a darker f/2.4 lens though and there is no auto focus to be found. But we have yet look closer at what called for this change.

Vivo World's first Phone with an underscreen Fingureprints Sensor

Vivo may have unveiled the world's first smartphone with a fingerprint scanner in the display last year, but it is only now that it is making the phone official.
Called Vivo X20 Plus UD the new phone has a synaptic s build clear ID 9500 sensor towards the bottom of the Amoled display, which means that you get a bezelless display without sacrificing a finger print sensor on the front which is where most of us prefer it.

Design and Display:

The display comes with a 6.43 inches AMOLED panel with full HD+ resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio.
The fingerprint scanner is arguably its biggest feature and despite the display layer it is said to be just as fast as other sensors. It can register data from a thickness of 1.5mm meaning your screen protector ideally needs to be thinner that that.

The phone is only available in Black.

Under the hood you get a mid range Snapdragon 660 processor with 4 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. Even with 128 GB of storage ViVO has included a hybrid microSD/SIM card slot for even more capacity.

Samsung Galaxy S9’s Box Leak Reveals Surprising New Features/Reviews

Samsung newest flagship phone in coming next month at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) but the leaks show no signs of stopping. The latest was a retail of the Galaxy S9 with some interesting new details mentioned specifications, Here's the image of box.

 

 The box pretty much confirms the rumored specifications of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S9.
What the rumors didn't to was the inclusion of stereo speakers and a camera with variable apertue.
It mentions f/1.5 and f2.4 for the Dual Pixel 12 MP camera, similar to the China exclusive W2018 phone which had f/1.5 aperture. No smartphone has implemented a variable aperture to date , which should make Samsung implementation all the more interesting.

Another thing mentioned here are the Super Slow-mo videos ehich could mean something similar to Sony's 960 fps motion eyes camera on the XZ series.

Stereo speakers are also making a comeback, if the specs on the box are correct. Leaked renders of the galaxy S9 show even slimmer bezels than before, however Samsung is likely to use the earpiece as the second speaker to keep the bezels samll.

 

Other specification include a 5.8 inch Super AMOLED QHD+ (2960x1440) resolution display. It will be powered by Exynos 9810 or Snapdragon 845, with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage.
It will have an 8MP front camera as well as wireless charging support. IP 68 water and dust resistance is also making its way to the S9 in addition to bundled AKG earphones in the box.

With the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) ending, tech fans are looking forward to the next big tech event: the Mobile World Congress (MWC). As the name implies, the MWC is where smartphone companies show off their latest and greatest products.

A new Android malware virus could be secretly recording your text messages and phone calls and you'd never know.

Security firm Kaspersky has cautioned Android smartphone owners about a dangerous new variant of malware.
Dubbed Faketoken, the new malware is capable of recording your calls, intercepting texts and quietly siphoning data from various mobile apps, including banking apps.

Kaspersky claim the Faketocken malware "hides its shortcut icon and starts to monitor all of the calls and whichever app the user launches" as soon as it has infiltrated your Android smartphone.

The Trojan style malware can steal data from more than 2,000 app, including Android pay, the Google Play Store, taxi and hotel booking app, as well as airlines apps, Kaspersky has claimed.

As millions of Android users have these applications installed the damage caused by Faketocken could be significant the company added.

As soon as the app is launched Faketocken immediately replaces the user interface with a fake one that asks the user to input their financial information.
"The substitution happens instantaneously and the colors of the fake UI correspond to those of the original launched app," antivirus company Kaspersky claimed in an official blog post.

If your bank send a separate verification code in a text message before it will process your payment Faketocken has a terrifying answer for that, too.

According to Kaspersky the evidence suggests that Faketocken is being targeted at Russian users for now.
However, it is a sobering reminder to avoid installing third party apps from unapproved sources like torrents or unknown websites.

The Google Play Store while not infallible is the safest option when downloading and installing new application for your Android smartphone or tablet.

After months in beta, the eighth major iteration of Google's Hugely successful operating System will land next week to coincide with the total solar eclipse.
Google has debuted a new webpage with a countdown to the solar event and launch of the new software.
"Android O is touching down to Earth with the total solar eclipse, bringing some sweet new powers. it declares."
"On August 21st, a solar eclipse will sweep across the entire United States for the first time since 1918."
"Android is helping you experience this historic natural phenomenon so you learn more about the eclipse and count down to the big day when you will meet the next release of Android and all of it's super new powers, revealed via live-stream from New York City at 2:40 PM ET."
Google Pixel and Pixel XL owners will be the first to download and install the operating system.
Other Google devices including the Nexus smartphone range will also be able to use the software.

The release date has been widely rumoured online.
Renowned tipster Evan Blass tweeted that Android O was scheduled to launch next week earlier this month. Google has previously said they would launch the Android O update in the third quarter of the year. David Ruddock from Android Police, had also tweeted that the Android 8.0 release date was imminent. He said that it was set to be released during the first two weeks of August.

Google have confirmed that Android O which began testing back in May is Android 8.0 and there's been much rumour about what the O in the mobile operating system name stand for it had widely been hoped for among the Android community that the O would stand for Oreo. However, it looks like the successor to Nougat may instead be called Oatmeal Cookie.
The possible name for android 8.0 was discovered in June by tech website Myce after they dug around in the code for Google upcoming mobile OS. They found oc dev mentioned a number of times within the code which seems to follow on former branch names used by Google. oc dev is also referred to as OC MR1 in messages relating to Android O. If those two characters are initials for what android 8.0 is called then the most likely name for the mobile OS could be Android Oatmeal Cookie.

The next generation version of android includes faster boot up times, better performance, tweaked notifications are improved batter life. But overall android 8.0 is not about headline grabbing new features instead it will double down on performance tweaks that make the everyday experience better for users. Smart selection is also being introduces in Android O.
Another new feature is notification dots, new colored bubbles that beside an app icon when you have a notification waiting.

APPLE'S iPHONE 8 look set to be released next month and it could launch alongside a fully updated Apple Watch Series 3.

Apple has rolled out a new operating system update IOS 10.3.3 that patches a number of vulnerabilities in the software, including some that could remote update execution on the device.

Hackers would have complete control over the devioce allowing them to access your data and features remotely.
Dobbed CVE 2017-1947 the bug was first published in an Android security bulletin.
It is also expected to be the main talking point of a BlackHat cybersecurity conference later this month.

The bug appears to affect Broadcom's BCM4354, 4358 and 4359 chips.
These chips are used in a swathe pf popular smartphone including handsets from HTC, LG, Google Samsung and Apple.

One thing Android lovers will be pleased to hear is that the NOKIA 8 offers an almost untouched version of Google operating system.

This pure experience not only means there's no boatware or annuying duplicate apps but it also should offer updates more quickly.
