If you use your phone while in the passenger seat of a car you could be fined

It has been illegal to use your phone while driving since 2003 but it wasn't until 2017 that laws became stricter.
The fine and penalty point endorsements doubled to £200 and six penalty points if you were caught.
The dangers of using your phone while driving are widely publicised and there are regularly initiatives coming into place to outlaw the use of them while on the go.
There is also evidently a lack of knowledge or full understanding of the law and its restrictions still in the UK.
In the RAC Report on Motoring 2016, almost half (47 per cent) of motorists said that they believed it was okay to check their phone or use social media while stopped in traffic.
However, even if you are stationary in traffic or stopped at a set of traffic lights then you can still be fined.
In fact, it is illegal to touch your phone at any point when you're behind the wheel.
One lesser known clause of the law could also see you land a fine while sat in the passenger seat of your car.
If you are supervising a learner driver and are sat in the passenger seat of your car then you could be fined the full £200 and six penalty points.
The person supervising the learner is responsible for the car, and therefore, all the road laws that apply to a driver equally apply to the instructor, despite them being in the passenger seat.

It doesn't just apply to qualified specialists it can also apply to a friend or family member supervising a driving lesson.
To be able to supervise a leaner you must adhere to a certain set of criteria.

  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Have a full driving licence (for the type of vehicle they are supervising in – manual or automatic), which must have been held for a minimum of three years
  • Ensure the car is in a safe and legal condition
  • Meet the minimum eyesight standards
  • Ensure the car displays L Plates (or D Plates in Wales) if a learner is driving
  • Have lots of patience.
Phones can be used if they are attached to a hands free device.

It is also advisable to take a driver assessment or advanced driving course to refresh your own skills and knowledge before you start supervising a learner
Ensure that you are fully up to date with the latest edition of The Highway Code
There are instances where you can use your phone while driving but there are also a number of rules you must stick to, to allow this.
Firstly the device must be hands-free and you must not touch it while on the go. Here is a list of hands-free devices you can use.
  • a bluetooth headset
  • voice command
  • a dashboard holder or mat
  • a windscreen mount
  • a built-in sat nav
There are only two instances where you can use your mobile phone while driving.
These are if you’re safely parked or if you need to call 999 or 112 in an emergency and it’s unsafe or impractical to stop.

Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan will inaugurate ‘Pakistan Citizen Portal’ today to address complains of the masses and get their feedback.

Download App From Google Play Store.

As per details garnered, the portal will be operated directly from PM’s office.

The portal is a simple tool that allows citizens to register themselves through an app and send their complaints to the concerned government departments. Every citizen whether he or she is in Pakistan or lives abroad can register a complaint online through an APP which would be run through beta android version. However, efforts are being made to include IOS version so that citizens having iphone can also register their complaints. How to Make Your Phone More Secure

Just like computers, smartphones have their security flaws. There have been many examples of Android breaches, with the Kapersky Security Bulletinproviding the recent example of the Android version of the Pegasus mobile espionage software, known as Chrysaor.

While the consensus is that Apple’s iOS is more secure than Google’s Android OS, all phones remain vulnerable to the latest chip vulnerability to be exposed: Spectre.

Additionally, in September alone last year Sophos Labs found that more than 30% of the ransomware it identified was on the Android platform, and there are an estimated 10 million Android apps that are categorized as ‘suspicious.

Given the rise of mobile malware, users need to be constantly vigilant and make sure that their phones are secure, and here are six ways you can do that.

1. Lock your phone:

Enabling a phone to lock itself when not used for a short period is a cornerstone of keeping the device secure. When the phone is locked, it prevents others getting access to the device, and all of its data data and apps.

While years ago locking your phone was a bit of a pain, modern smartphones offer a variety of unlock options, including fingerprint sensors and facial recognition, so you no longer have the excuse that it’s inconvenient to have to unlock the phone when you want to use it.

When you configure the lock settings you can specify the number of minutes before your phone locks, so specify a short interval of only a few minutes to make sure an unattended phone is locked down if found. The phone should also default to the lock screen after a restart, and require a PIN, not a fingerprint or other less secure shortcut, for the initial unlock to offer a higher level of security.

2. Keep the OS up to date:

Android users continue to face the fragmentation of their OS. The most common version of Android in use as of February 2018 is Nougat (7.0, 7.1), with a 28.5% market share, but only 1.1% of Android phone users are running the latest version, Oreo (8.0, 8.1), while the five-year-old KitKat (4.4) still soldiers on with 12% of the market, according to Fossbytes.

The situation is better, but far from perfect, in the Apple camp. While the latest version of iOS, 11.2, does have the highest market share at 70%, there’s a persistent minority of users still on earlier versions, such as the 10.1% who are on version 10.3, which is approaching a year old and doesn’t offer all the latest security updates.

Android users continue to be quagmired between phone manufacturers not releasing the latest updates for their handsets, and then carriers not rolling them out, leaving users potentially vulnerable to new threats, a situation that Google is seeking to address with its latest attempt to facilitate Android updates, Project Treble.

Our recommendation would be that if your phone is no longer being updated, then it’s time to start shopping for a new one. When looking for a new smartphone, in addition to other features, look for a phone that’s likely to receive updates over the long term. This makes an argument for choosing a more popular flagship that’s more likely to get plenty of update love over its lifetime, or a Google Pixel phone that will be well supported with updates.

3. Avoid insecure brands:

Some phones have a reputation for receiving more frequent updates, such as the aforementioned Google Pixel line, and Apple iPhones that continue to get updates for several years. However, with other smartphones it’s quite the opposite.

In February the issue of phone security reached the level of a congressional hearing in the US, with intelligence officials warning that phones from Chinese manufacturers Huawei and ZTE should be considered insecure, and going so far as to accuse these phones of spying on US citizens. And last year budget phones from Blu were pulled from Amazon due to privacy concerns.

In general, sticking to more mainstream brands that have a high profile in the market, rather than second- or third-tier products, is the safer choice.

4. Encryption:

With all the data that’s on your smartphone – emails, contacts, financial apps and more – it goes without saying that if the phone is lost or stolen you don’t want a crook gaining access to it. The solution is to encrypt the phone’s storage, so that if it falls into someone else’s hands the data is protected.

Thankfully, setting up encryption is pretty simple – just follow our handy guide.

5. Scan for viruses:

Mobile devices are increasingly susceptible to malware, including ransomware. Even the Google Play Store continues to be plagued with malware, with unreputable programs attracting an astonishing 4.2 million downloads, including the ExpensiveWall hack that masqueraded as a wallpaper app. The solution, just as when downloading software to a laptop or PC, is to be wary of downloads from less mainstream vendors and unverified sources, and to scan periodically for viruses and malware.

While Windows desktop operating systems come with Windows Defender to guard against malware, mobile platforms don’t yet have a default antivirus program. The easy fix is to download and install an anti-malware app, and we have recommended choices from reputable vendors for both iOS and Android.

6. Don’t jailbreak your phone:

A subsection of iPhone users have a reputation for ‘sticking it to the man’ by jailbreaking their devices, believing that in order to get the most from their phone they need to free it from Apple’s built-in restrictions on which apps and extensions they can install. Android users can do something similar, although the term here is to root the device, rather than to jailbreak it.

The problem with doing either is that it enables users to download unauthorized apps that may contain malware. For example, back in 2015 the KeyRaidermalware that targeted jailbroken iPhones, and resulted in 225,000 Apple accounts, including passwords, being found on a server.

That attack, however, pales in comparison to the more recent CopyCat malwarethat affected 14 million Android devices, and even rooted eight million of them without the owner’s knowledge. The source of the malware was popular apps downloaded from sites other than the Google Play Store.

From a security standpoint, the best practice is to not jailbreak your phone, and stick with the original OS to avoid exposing the phones to malware and other threats. source

Samsung Galaxy A8+ review/specifications

Samsung did well last year with it's A series by releasing three different models- the A3, the A5 and the A7. However, it has decided to shake things around a bit this year by only releasing the A8 and the A8+._
_

With those model numbers, it appears that Samsung wants to target the top of the mid-end range. This is a space where "flagship killers" such as the OnePlus 5T and Nokia 8 exist, offering flagship specs at a much more affordable price. But for Samsung, that is a double-edged sword because it wants to sell flagships like the Galaxy S8.

Thus, for all intents and purposes, the Galaxy A8+, is a toned down flagship. It comes with compromises, but is an excellent phone in many regards. It's pricing is what will determines it's fate.

Samsung Galaxy A8+ price:

The Samsung Galaxy A8+ was announced in UAE in mid January and went on sale immediately after that. Samsung has priced the Galaxy A8+ at AED 1,999 while the Galaxy A8 is a bit lower at AED 1,799. Both these prices exclude VAT.

The Samsung Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A8+ are also available through du at zero upfront with it's postpaid plans.

Design:

Going for premium looks, the Galaxy A8+ follows Samsung's glass and metal design language. The glass back feels slightly different than the S8 which prevented the A8+ from slipping out of our hands. But like most glass phones, expect to clean it frequently to wipe out fingerprint marks that it attracts easily.

The design on the A8+ is not only premium but also quite solid. A glass body is, of course, prone to cracking, but the A8+ feels like a very well-built smartphone in your hands. It's got a flagship-feel to it, which the OnePlus 5T lacks.

Giving us a taste of what to expect with the upcoming Galaxy S9, Samsung has moved the rectangular fingerprint sensor below the camera on the back. While this makes it easier to get to than the Galaxy S8, we prefer circular scanners on phones. It's not a glaring fault though and we did get used to it eventually.

The Galaxy A8+ has an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance which is great and so is the presence of the 3.5mm audio jack, which is placed at the bottom next to the USB Type-C charging port.
The dual SIM tray sits on the left below the volume buttons while the power switch is on the right along with the interestingly positioned speaker grill above it. And to the delight for some, no dedicated Bixby key either.

Display:

The Galaxy A8+ has a 6-inch 18.5:9 AMOLED display, with 2.5D curved glass on top. As a result, the display appears to merge into the frame, giving it an immersive and a premium look.
_
_
Like most Samsung panels, it's bright and colorful, albeit noticeably oversaturated making the colors pop more than they naturally should. Samsung does allow you to switch to a more natural color setting if you prefer that. Brightness levels are good enough to be used outdoors in the Dubai sun but obviously not as good as the Galaxy Note 8.

The resolution on the Galaxy A8 and A8+ is 1080 x 2220 which is slightly lower than what is found on the Galaxy S8 and S8+. For most, this won't be noticeable at all. Viewing angles are also fine- though there is a slight blue tint when you tilt the screen, though nowhere near the levels we've noticed on the LG V30+. Source

Nokia unveils its new slate of Android smartphones

Nokia unveils its new slate of Android smartphones starting at 85$.

Nokia-in its newest iteration as a licensed based of HMD is a long way off its glory days, the years when it not only set the place for innovation in the mobile phone market but also led its as the world biggest handset maker. The company took its latest step in rebuilding itself as it unveiled a slate of android smartphones, The Nokia 1, the Nokia 6, Nokia 7 plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco with the cheaper of these the Nokia 1 coming at 85$ and new feature phone.

The new handsets come as the company said that it sold 70 million devices in 2017 across its 11 models, year one of its comeback strategy. “Being a challenger and smaller player, market share is not the most important thing for us to grasp right now,” said Pekka Rantala, EVP and CMO of HMD Global said in an interview. “But we sold more than 70 million Nokia phones in 2017 – including all models. We have high ambitions but this figure was higher for us than we expected.”

The company currently has over 100 retail partners and the plan is to expand that to more this year.
“This time last year, we started our journey with huge expectations from fans and a massive responsibility to deliver on the legacy of one of the most innovative brands in our space,” Florian Seiche, CEO of HMD Global, said in a statement. “Since then we have reintroduced well-loved icons, forged partnerships with friends old and new and delivered our pure, secure and up-to-date Android experience across our smartphone portfolio. Last year we shipped over 70 million Nokia phones.”

The smartphones getting lauched today are notable for how closely they are tied to Google’s Android, with Nokia joining Google’s Android One partnership program as part of today’s news — and in the case of the pared-down Nokia 1, using Android Go.

Its unique spin, the company says, will be in the craftsmanship of the hardware itself.

In the absence of a distinctively different operating system and any alternative to what is already on the market software-wise, it will be interesting to see whether this is enough to motivate the masses who are new to Nokia phones an brand loyalists from the old days.

The flagship of the range, the Nokia 8 Sirocco, will retail for €749 and will include Dual-Sight, Zeiss optics, Nokia spatial audio, and a curved glass finish around a stainless-steel frame, with a measurement of 2mm at the edge, using edge-to-edge pOLED 2K 5.5-inch display. Nokia claims the stainless steel frame is 2.5 times stronger than 6000 series aluminium. It also features wireless charging and a way to log into the phone using facial recognition.

The Nokia 7 Plus, priced at €399, is being positioned with its camera features in the forefront, with a 12MP Zeiss optics — significantly, marking the return of Zeiss to Nokia devices after having a long-time collaboration with the brand when Nokia was still making its phones itself — for its primary camera and a secondary 13MP camera with 2x optical zoom.

The front camera has adaptive sensor technology for low-light conditions, and a new feature called “pro camera” on all Zeiss optics where you can modify the aperture and other features and see previews before taking the pictures, along with a new imagine suite that lets you include AR-type lenses as well as animated characters.

It is built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 Mobile Platform with a two-day battery life and comes in Black/Copper and White/Copper.

The Nokia 6, meanwhile, will retail for €279 when it goes on sale in April, and is a new version of the phone it announced previously. The new features include faster processing power (60 percent faster, HMD says) and a more durable body, made from a block of 6000 series aluminum, along with Zeiss optics, USB-C fast-charging and Android Oreo as part of the Android One program. Another two notable features are wireless charging, as well as the ability now to unlock your phone using your face — two details that it seems are now becoming standard in mobile devices.

It’s built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 Mobile Platform and comes in Black/Copper, White/Iron and Blue/Gold, with two configurations of 3GB RAM/32GB ROM, and later 4GB RAM/64GB ROM.

Finally, the Nokia 1 is the company’s low-end smartphone, with a very reasonable price of $85 at retail when it goes on sale in April. It’s marketed as “smartphone essentials” — which in this case is Android Oreo Go Edition — the version of Android that is optimised for phones with memory of 1GB or less. On the outside, the phone comes with a series of Xpress-on covers to change the color to Azure, Grey, Yellow and Pink (a feature Nokia has been running for years now, starting in the Lumia line).

New Zealand take on the arch rivals Australia in the second Rugby Championship Match. here is nazimali4800.blogspot.com guide to streaming all the action online using mobile, PC and Smart TV devices.

New Zealand face Australia for a second weekend in the Rugby Championship. Despite a second half comeback from Australia, New Zealand thrashed their rivals 54-34 Sydney last time out.
Mow the Wallabies head to the Forsyth Barr Stadium Dunedin in the hope they put the past defeat behind them.

However it won't be an easy match to win especially with New Zealand Dane Coles expected to play his first Test since November.

iPhone 8 release date may see the launch of another exciting new device

APPLE'S iPHONE 8 look set to be released next month and it could launch alongside a fully updated Apple Watch Series 3.
Apple may reveal a new watch alongside the iPhone 8
The iPHONE 8 is just weeks away from its official release date with Apple to reveal a smarphone packed with updated features.

All rumors point to a phone that will include an edge to edge AMOLED display which will the entire front of the device.
Upgraded processor new camera and wireless charging are also thought to be this year generation gadget.
The iPHONE has just celebrated its 10th birthday and this anniversary model is likely be the most advanced smartphone Apple has ever created.
However, although excitement around the new iPHONE 8 continues to grow it may not be the only gadget Apple unveils at its September event.
Rumors are rife that an updated Apple Watch is also coming, with US news site CNBC claiming this latest wearable will be launched alongside the new iPHONE.
This new smartphone could feature a faster processor, bigger battery and similar design but perhaps the biggest change could arrive in the form of LTE version.
By including the addition of an in built chip-set the Apple Watch would get great independence from the iPHONE.
At the moment, the Apple Watch has to be connected with paired iPHONE over Bluetooth or WIFI before the device can make phone calls, receive notifications, download new music and apps, and more..

Including a mobile signal in the watch would allow the device to do all these things without being near an iPHONE.

Last year, Apple added GPS to the APPLE WATCH SERIES 2, which allows the smartphone to track outdoor runs, cycle and provide turn by turn navigation without a paired iPHONE nearby.
Unfortunately, there is still lot we don't know about the rumored inclusion of LTE in the APPLE WATCH 3.
Presumable, Apple will still set models of the Watch without LTE like it does with IPAD and change a premium for this feature.
Since its launch in 2015 the Apple Watch has proven to be hugely popular, far outselling all of its rivals.

Apple hasn't released official numbers but CEO Tim Cook recently revealed that sales of its wearable have nearly doubled year over year.
In fact, during this month earning call, Cook revealed that demand was "so strong" that Apple "couldn't" make enough".
He went to say the company is thrilled with the response it's seen to the wearable device.
